As the temperatures drop and the leaves turn, we’re stepping into a season of change—and I couldn’t be more excited. Those rainy days may have knocked the dust off the trails, but in my world of Real Estate, things are heating up. This time of year always brings a surge of activity, with buyers and sellers eager to make their moves before the snow flies. If you’re like me, the busier it gets, the sharper the focus becomes.

Donner Party Hike

The Donner Party Hike 2025 is happening this weekend, October 4-5, at Sugar Bowl Resort near Donner Summit, California. This annual event offers a unique opportunity to explore the region’s rich history and stunning landscapes through guided hikes and interpretive tours. On Saturday, participants can choose from eight different hikes, ranging from 3.5 to 6 miles, featuring historic sites like petroglyphs, railroad snowsheds, and the China Wall. Each hike is led by local historians who bring the past to life with stories and historical photographs. After the hikes, enjoy a hamburger lunch and a special presentation about the Reed Family of the Donner Party. Sunday’s activities include a walking tour to Alder Creek, where the Donner Party endured their tragic winter, and a visit to the Donner Memorial State Park, featuring the Murphy Cabin Site and Pioneer Monument. Since its very first year, the event has become a beloved autumn tradition celebrating the town’s unique history, culture, and community.
